Gus Lazares

Charitable Contributions Division

Gus Lazares joined the Empire Mock Trial Association staff this year and has been working in the Charitable Contributions division.  He has been contacting potential sponsors over the summer with the hope of establishing the most well resourced Empire Mock Trial Tournament to date.  Currently Gus works as a legal assistant at Haughey & Deters LLC in Oxford, OH.

Prior to signing on to the EMTA, Gus competed for the nationally ranked Miami University Mock Trial Program for four years, and then stayed on to coach for a fifth year.  During the course of his time as a competitor and coach, Miami posted 3 top ten and 2 top five finishes at the National Championship Tournament. Gus was a member of four teams that competed at Nationals, narrowly missing the chance to compete in the final round at the conclusion of the 2010 season.  En route to establishing his program as #2 in the nation, Gus racked up outstanding attorney awards across the country and earned the prestigious “All-American” distinction his senior year.

Gus also coached and directed the Talawanda High School Mock Trial Program for three years, taking the team to the State Championship Tournament in Ohio his final year as a coach.  Gus considers himself an avid student of the art of trial advocacy and will begin attending the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University this August.
